Savannah’s March Unemployment Rate Sees Minor Uptick Amid Solid Job Sector Growth

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Savannah recorded an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent in March, up two-tenths over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.0 percent.

“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”

The labor force increased in Savannah by 1,618 and ended the month with 205,045, an all-time high. That number went up by 3,849 when compared to March of 2023.

Savannah finished the month with 199,186 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 1,284 over-the-month and rose by 4,008 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Savannah ended March with 205,800 jobs. That number went up from the previous month by 800 and rose by 3,200 when compared to this time last year.

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 135 (-22%) in Savannah. When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 92 (-16%).
