Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, April 26th, 2024

Join Telfair Museums and the Savannah Music Festival in celebrating the final weeks of the exhibition, Frank Stewart's Nexus: An American Photographer's Journey 1960s to the Present, with an exciting Free Family Day on April 27 at the Jepson Center. The exhibition is the first major museum show of photographer Frank Stewart’s work and centers on his sensitive and spontaneous approach to portraying world cultures and Black life in many forms—including music, art, travel, food, and dance.

Residents of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties are invited for an exciting opportunity to explore the museum's galleries, enjoy hands-on art activities, shop with local vendors, and eat delicious food from the Strange Bird food truck and Wildflower Cafe. Additionally, Telfair Square will be programmed with live performances by musicians presented by the Savannah Music Festival.

Christopher Constas, Telfair Museums' director of visitor experience and engagement, said, 'We are thrilled to present this Free Family Day in partnership with Savannah Music Festival to engage our community and bring families together. We hope everyone will come out and enjoy all that Telfair Museums has to offer.'

Frank Stewart, a long-time photographer of the Savannah Music Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and other events, has contributed to the landscape of Savannah culture for decades. Telfair Square will be filled with live performances by artists presented by the Savannah Music Festival. Colombian cumbia artist Gregorio Uribe will be performing at 12pm, followed by jazz artist Brianna Thomas at 1:30. Both artists and their bands are part of Savannah Music Festival's Musical Explorers program for K2 students.

Jenny Woodruff, Savannah Music Festival's Senior Director of Community Impact, said "This exhibit and this event is especially meaningful to us. Music is so important in Frank's body of work, and he has been an invaluable part of our festival for two decades now. We are thrilled to bring Gregorio Uribe and Brianna Thomas to help celebrate Frank Stewart in Savannah."

The Free Family Day will run from 10 am to 5 pm, with exciting activities and performances taking place between 11 am and 4 pm.
