Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, December 4th, 2025

Telfair Museums invites the community to celebrate the opening of its beloved annual exhibition, Making Marks, with a free public program from 2–5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Jepson Center (207 W. York St. Savannah, GA). The event’s featured auditorium program will begin at 3 p.m. in the Neises Auditorium.

For more than 30 years, Making Marks has honored the creative expressions of individuals from across Savannah, showcasing artwork by residents of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Rooted in Telfair’s commitment to community engagement, the exhibition emphasizes the transformative and healing power of artmaking—whether undertaken individually or in group settings through the museum’s extensive outreach partnerships.

This year’s opening celebration will bring together Telfair’s staff, outreach partners, participating artists, and local supporters for an inspiring afternoon of storytelling, performance, and reflection. The auditorium program will include a presentation on Telfair’s outreach initiatives, along with testimonials and performances by artists and partner groups whose work shapes the heart of the exhibition.

“Making Marks is one of Telfair’s most meaningful traditions because it elevates the creative voices of our entire community—including many who may not always see themselves represented in museum spaces,” said Dr. David A. Brenneman, Executive Director of Telfair Museums. “The exhibition reminds us that art has the power to heal, connect, and empower, and we’re honored to celebrate the individuals and partner organizations who make this work possible year after year.”

The Making Marks exhibition highlights artwork created through Telfair Museums’ outreach programs across Savannah, including partnerships with health and social service organizations, schools, veteran groups, and correctional facilities. Under the guidance of Telfair’s skilled instructors, participants explore artmaking as a means of self-expression, creative development, and recovery. The exhibition features work by local students, veterans, and incarcerated individuals—each offering a unique reflection on the role art plays in their lives.
