EMC Engineering Services Inc. Team Members Place In Surveying And Mapping Society Of Georgia’s Annual Plat Competition
Monday, February 2nd, 2026
Jason Woods, Senior Survey Technician, and Katarina Crumpler, Jr. Design Engineer, at EMC Engineering Services, Inc. (EMC), placed in their respected categories in the 2026 Surveying and Mapping Society of Georgia’s (SAMSOG) Annual Plat Competition. The EMC team accepted the awards at the 2026 Technical Seminar in Duluth, GA.
Mr. Woods received first place in the ALTA Plats category for his submission—a survey prepared for a local Columbus convenience store and gas station. He selected this project for its complexity, as it included a wide range of elements essential to a comprehensive plat, including underground utilities, property improvements, and site easements.
“This competition gives me the opportunity to see other survey plats from across Georgia, helping me make my own more professional and informative for our clients. It’s always a wonderful surprise to receive a win, and this award is especially meaningful after 23 years in survey drafting,” said Mr. Woods. "Competitions like this keep me focused as I pursue licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor, and I’m grateful to EMC for their support, training, and mentoring.”
Ms. Crumpler received second place in the Topographic Plats category for her submission—a survey prepared for Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, GA. She selected this project for its unique topographic features, noting that the contours and steep grades presented a challenge unlike the surveys she typically works on in the Brunswick office, where large elevation differences are uncommon.
"Receiving this award is an exciting step in advancing my surveying career, offering me a chance to become a member of SAMSOG, attend the seminar, and learn from other experienced professionals in the field,” said Ms. Crumpler. “The EMC team has been nothing but supportive of my growth as a surveyor, from drawing and plat review to being able to attend SAMSOG alongside other EMC surveyors."
SAMSOG’s Plat Competition allows surveying professionals across Georgia to showcase their work and gain insights from their peers. This recognition marks Mr. Woods’s 20th SAMSOG plat award, and Ms. Crumpler’s first. It also highlights EMC’s ongoing investment in fostering talent and supporting employees in their professional growth, across disciplines and departments.
“Mr. Woods’s and Ms. Crumpler’s accomplishments reflect the high standard of excellence at EMC,” said EMC Chief Operations Officer, Christopher E. Brazell, PE, PLS. “We are proud to provide our team with the tools and opportunities to grow in their career paths and to be recognized for their dedication.”
