Apply for Your City’s Share of $250 Million in Local Road Assistance Administration Funds
News, April 25, 2024
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced the availability of $250 million in Local Road Assistance Administration (LRA) funds for fiscal year 2024. This funding, included by the Governor and the Legislature in the state’s FY 2024 budget, presents a significant opportunity for Georgia's local governments to address infrastructure needs. Administration and Distribution The LRA funds will be managed and distributed through GDOT’S GRANTS (LMIG) Application System. Eligible activities and projects mirror those of the LMIG program. There is no match required. Visit the GDOT website to find your city’s formula amount. Application Details Application Window: Applications opened on March 15, 2024, and must be submitted electronically by June 15, 2024. Application Process: Visit the GDOT website, which provides access to the LMIG application, tutorial, and general guidelines, to begin the process. Assistance: District State Aid Coordinators are available to assist with the online application process. Requirements for Processing For timely processing, applications must meet the following criteria: Audit Compliance: Local governments must be in audit compliance with the Department of Audits and Accounts (DOAA) and meet minimum standards under the Georgia Planning Act and the Service Delivery Strategy law. Cover Letter: Include a signed cover letter detailing completion status of the last three fiscal years’ LMIG Grants. Signature Page: Attach a signed signature page with both the local government seal and notary seal. Option to Hold Funds Local governments can request GDOT to hold funds for up to three years, facilitating savings for larger projects or pooling with other local funds. To do so, complete the appropriate form on the GDOT web site and inform the department accordingly. Deployment of Funds Cities should submit their LRA applications promptly as the Fiscal Year 2025 LMIG Program commences in July. Contact Information For inquiries or assistance regarding the LMIG Program, reach out to your District State Aid Coordinator, contact the Local Grants Office in Atlanta at (404) 347-0240, or email questions to [email protected].
