Georgia is the Southeast's Best Place to Work from Home

Georgia is the best state in the Southeast to work from home in, new research reveals.

The study by sleep experts Amerisleep examined the most populated cities in the Southeast to discover the best and worst states for working remotely. Work environment was judged on Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people, average commute time and the cost of monthly transportation, while home-living environment data was drawn from factors such as monthly utility bills, internet speed and broadband costs.

The study revealed that Georgia is the best state for working from home in the Southeast, with a total Index score of 71.62. Georgia has one of the longer commute times in the US with an average of 28.4 minutes, in addition to an above average internet speed of 150.6mbps, making Georgia the best place to work remotely in the Southeast.

Virginia is the second-best state to work remotely in the Southeast. The state, home to Virginia beach, tops the list for home-living environment factors, due to the third-highest internet speed in the US with 190.1mbps. Virginia also has the longest commute time in the Southeast, with an average of 28.4 minutes, giving it a Total Index Score of 71.09. 

North Carolina places as the third best state to work from home in the Southeast. It has the lowest cost of monthly utility bills in the region at $143.71, and a lower than average monthly internet price of $62.86, making North Carolina the third best South-eastern state for working remotely with a Total Index Score of 69.60.

In contrast, Mississippi ranks as the worst state for remote working in the Southeast with the lowest Total Index Score of 57.63. The state ranked so low due to its high utility bills costing $265.67 a month, monthly internet price of $78.50 yet slow broadband speed with 84.5mbps.
