Savannah/Hilton Head International Wraps Up 2022 Beating Pre-Pandemic Record Passenger Numbers
Tuesday, February 7th, 2023
Passenger numbers at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport reached an unprecedented high in 2022, as 3,533,294 passengers traveled through the airport. This sets the record for the most annual passengers in the airport’s history and is 27 percent higher than 2021’s passenger count of 2,780,909. The record growth has been spurred by expanded services offered by airlines and inbound passenger traffic to the region’s most popular destinations – Savannah and Hilton Head Island.
“Our air service team and partners continue to invest significant time, effort, and resources to expanding our air service offerings and to ensure we have enough capacity to support the forecast growth in both leisure and business travel,” said Savannah Airport Commission Executive Director Greg Kelly. “This expected growth will require larger facilities and those projects are already either underway or in the design phase at the current time. We look forward to another busy year here at SAV.”
Here’s how airlines flying in and out of SAV stacked up against each other. Airlines are listed in order from largest to smallest market share. Delta Airlines 30.86%, American 23.8%, Southwest 14.85%, United 13.11%, JetBlue 8.5%, Allegiant 6.63%. Avelo, Sun Country, Breeze, Silver, and Frontier were each less than 1%. The Airport finished out the year with an 82% load factor.
To prepare for the future, Savannah/Hilton Head International is actively engaged in capital projects totaling over $150M. Those improvements will allow for growth in passenger traffic as well as lay the groundwork for a new air cargo complex and an expanded general aviation campus. All these improvements will stimulate regional growth and add to the airport’s overall $4.2B economic impact.
SAV is served by eleven airlines with over fifty daily nonstop departures to over thirty destinations, and several additional weekly nonstop flights and destinations are offered seasonally.
