Tybee Island Marine Science Center is Celebrating Whale Week

Tuesday, November 14th, 2023

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center is celebrating Whale Week the week of November 13th in honor of the endangered North Atlantic right whales that visit the Georgia coast during the winter. Every year, breeding female whales travel to the Georgia coast to have babies in the winter months.

During Whale Week, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center is offering special whale-inspired activities that are included with admission. This year is the sixth annual celebration of Whale Week. A partnership between the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, Oceana, and the City of Savannah, Whale Week aims to raise awareness for the most endangered whales on the planet, the North Atlantic right whale, with events at various locations throughout Chatham County. Activities are planned to promote inclusion and reach a wide audience of students, conservationists, and artists from all cultural backgrounds as a call to action to build a corridor of consciousness for North Atlantic right whales.

Chantal Audran, Executive Director, Tybee Island Marine Science Center, said, "Whale Week offers many opportunities for people to learn more about these special creatures.” For more information about Whale Week, please go to www.whaleweek.org/ and for more information about the Tybee Island Marine Science Center’s activities, please go to tybeemarinescience.org .
