Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, February 28th, 2024

Officials of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club announced today that the tournament will host the fourth annual Fairways Fore Change event on Monday, April 1, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Palmetto Clubhouse at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

This special event is designed to support inclusivity and diversity in golf by addressing the barriers that exist to making the sport accessible to everyone.

Fairways Fore Change has continued to provide a perfect platform for awareness and growing the game of golf since we began the impactful event in 2021,” Cheyenne Overby, Tournament Director, said. “Providing more access to this great sport remains an important mission of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. Bringing together community leaders and golf dignitaries to help shine a light on the obstacles that stand in the way of that goal is very rewarding for all involved.”

Fairways Fore Change panelists come from key organizations in Savannah, and beyond, for discussion on this valuable topic. The 2024 event welcomes featured guests Ariel Brown of the Savannah Legacy Academy, Tony Fielding of Club Car, Robert Price of Elite Minds LLC, junior golfer Hayden Price, and Tour professionals Tim O’Neal and Evan Harmeling.

In related news, tournament officials announced the launch of the Junior Golf Legacy Scholarship, a new charitable initiative in partnership with the Club Car Championship and the Evan and Ariel Harmeling Foundation. The Junior Golf Legacy Scholarship will provide golf lesson scholarships to students in the Savannah area who have demonstrated great potential in their game. The three students selected annually will receive six months of instruction from Joe Plecker, a Top-100 Golf Digest coach, at the Golf Performance Center at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

Harmeling, the 2020 Club Car Championship winner, launched the Evan and Ariel Harmeling Foundation alongside his wife in fall of 2023 and is paying homage to his first Korn Ferry Tour win by partnering with the Savannah Legacy Academy. Harmeling learned about the Savannah Legacy Academy through Savannah native Tim O’Neal, his playing partner for the first two rounds of his 2020 victory at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

In additional news, the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club introduced today the return of the tournament’s Kid Correspondent Program, in partnership with the 100 Black Men of Savannah. The 2024 official correspondent of the Championship, Brian Campbell, will experience a full week of activities, including the Opening Ceremony, access to post-round Korn Ferry Tour player interviews, a shadowing experience with tournament officials, and more.

Campbell is 15 years old, likes cooking and is interested in joining the military. He enjoys track, playing basketball and enjoys watching sports like boxing and rugby.
