Dewitt Tilton Group, the leading design-build commercial construction firm serving the Southeast, launches a new internship program for aspiring commercial and industrial construction professionals. This program unlocks a unique pathway into the construction industry, welcoming individuals actively pursuing careers in construction.
“At Dewitt Tilton Group, we are committed to fostering the next generation of construction professionals,” said Amy Friess, Director of Business Strategy and Development who developed the program. “Our internship program offers practical experience in aspects of the design-build process, from pre-construction planning to project completion."
The Dewitt Tilton Group internship program is open to students and individuals seeking to enter the construction field. We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, a passion for learning and a desire to build a future in construction. Interns will be mentored by experienced professionals and will have the opportunity to:
-
Gain exposure to phases of the design-build process
-
Learn from industry experts in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
-
Develop valuable skills in project management, communication and teamwork
-
Contribute to real-world projects and make a meaningful impact
Dewitt Tilton Group's unique design-build approach delivers streamlined projects, faster completion times and significant cost savings. The internship program immerses students in this innovative method, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the industry. Interns gain hands-on experience collaborating with designers and construction professionals, learning how to optimize projects from conception to completion.
The idea for the internship program was sparked when Friess received an unsolicited resume. She took the idea to company President and Co-owner Chris Tilton, who enthusiastically embraced it. Before long, they decided to formally launch an internship program, starting with the same person who sent the resume, Scott Hawley.
“I think the biggest benefit of the internship is experience. Learn as much as you can as fast as you can, and then take those skills and put them to use,” Hawley said. “The field experience was invaluable. Learning hands-on from seasoned professionals and seeing the challenges firsthand gave me a real grasp of construction that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. It is definitely where I learned the most and solidified my desire to pursue a career in this field."
Tilton agreed that the internship program not only benefits Dewitt Tilton Group but also the construction industry as a whole. "I appreciate seeing Scott's progress and how he is beginning to understand the broader concepts of construction," said Tilton. "It is rewarding to see his eyes light up as he takes notes.”
Tilton continued, “Our design-build approach sets us apart in the industry. Interns will gain valuable insights into how design and construction teams work together seamlessly to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.”
