The Savannah Youth Council (SYC) and Savannah Youth Ambassadors (SYA) are now accepting 2024-2025 membership applications.

SYA is a year-round program that fosters youth leadership and civic engagement through City-sponsored training, cultural exploration opportunities, and Make a Difference community impact projects. The program kicks off each year in June, with a four-week summer intensive session.

Students must be in 9th-12th grade and attend a Savannah-Chatham public or private school. Homeschooled students are eligible if they live within the Savannah area.  Applications close on April 30 or when spots are filled.

"Savannah's continued prosperity will depend upon our ability to prepare, develop, and mentor Savannah's emerging generation of young leaders," Mayor Van R. Johnson, II said. "Savannah is nationally regarded as a leader in civic youth engagement. For almost 30 years, I have watched countless young people gain confidence, knowledge, and valuable life skills through these programs."

SYC provides local youth with the experience of working with city government while obtaining a sense of civic responsibility as well as the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Members also work together on group projects and participate in community service activities.

Students must be starting 8th grade and attend a Savannah-Chatham public or private school. Homeschooled students are eligible if they live within the Savannah area. Applications are open until all spots are filled. The program will begin in August.
