Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, October 28th, 2024

Xcel, a Savannah-based 501(c)(3), is excited to announce its South Georgia Summit, an annual event celebrating the achievements of its students and partnering organizations. This year, the Summit will take place on November 7, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Kehoe Ironworks in Savannah, GA. The event will feature a fresh conference-style format, including networking opportunities, a panel discussion on industries in the trades, and an awards luncheon.

The Xcel Summit will honor outstanding individuals with five prestigious awards:

Student of the Year (one from each of the counties represented—Bryan, Bulloch,

  Effingham, and Chatham)

Community Champion Award

Mentor of the Year Award

In addition to celebrating these achievements, Xcel will make exciting announcements regarding new partnerships and initiatives for the coming year. Proceeds from the event will support Xcel’s mission of equipping students with the skills and training needed to succeed in the workforce.

“We believe that jobs build self-confidence, giving young people a solid foundation to build their dreams upon. Once students complete our Fueled With Purpose Training, they earn opportunities for job interviews and, ultimately, entry-level jobs,” said Jay Thompson, Founder and CEO of Xcel. “Success at entry-level jobs leads to further growth in support-level roles. Trade jobs are in high demand, and we encourage our young people to know that they can succeed, earn good money, and take care of their families through these opportunities.”

At the core of Xcel’s work are three key initiatives:

1. Training: Providing the technical and professional skills students need to succeed in

the modern workforce.

2. Mentoring: Offering guidance and support through dedicated mentors who help students navigate their career paths.

3. Job Placement: Aiding students in finding meaningful employment, particularly in high-demand trade industries, and preparing them to thrive in their chosen fields.

The Summit promises to be an engaging event, with networking opportunities for students to explore career paths, internships, and leadership programs. A dynamic panel featuring leaders from Xcel’s partner companies will offer valuable insights into the trades and the importance of workforce development.
