Tiger Nation past and present will soon descend on Savannah to celebrate their shared affection and commitment to Georgia’s oldest public Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

Savannah State University’s (SSU) Savannah Homecoming on the Water (SHOW) week kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) has planned a full week of activities building toward game day when the SSU Tigers will face off against the Lane College Dragons at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at T.A. Wright Stadium.

The week starts off with an hour of united prayers including SSU students, alumni and the community followed by a gospel concert. Other highlights include Aux Cord Wars on Oct. 22 where audience members will battle to see who has the best beats and “The

Royal Overture” themed coronation of Mister and Miss SSU on Oct. 24 in the Tiger Arena. A centerpiece of the annual Homecoming, the Coronation is a deeply rooted tradition among HBCUs that has been passed down through the generations. The Scholarship Golf Tournament and Greek Step Show will take place on Oct. 25 and the annual downtown parade kicks off at 9 a.m. on Oct. 26 before the big game and fireworks.

“Homecoming at SSU is truly an unforgettable experience,” said SSU Interim President Cynthia Alexander. “We are thrilled to welcome our alumni and community back to campus to celebrate our illustrious past, our vibrant present, and our exciting future as our students continue to reach new heights. Our Campus Activities Board has organized activities that honor our cultural heritage and provide new opportunities for our students to display their pride and SSU spirit.”

The SSU Foundation is still accepting sponsors and participants for the Golf Tournament at the Club at Savannah Harbor Resort. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the event and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as Closest to the Pin, Hole in One, and Longest Drive Raffle and Mulligans.
