City Wants Residents to Shape the Future of Savannah
Friday, January 24th, 2025
The City of Savannah is inviting all Savannahians to help staff and elected officials develop a strategic plan to shape the future of our city through a new initiative, Savannah GPS.
Savannah GPS will focus on six key goals that impact every resident, business, and neighborhood in the city with the mission of making Savannah a safe, environmentally healthy, and economically thriving community for all citizens.
A public, online survey is now live at //savannahga.gov/gps. More than just a traditional multiple-choice question survey, participants will have the chance to respond to open-ended prompts allowing participants to speak their thoughts freely in a conversational tone.
In addition to the online survey, City staff and elected leaders will host seven community engagement meetings. The first will be a virtual kick-off meeting on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. From Feb. 3 through Monday, Feb. 10, staff will host six in-person meetings in each of the City’s Aldermanic Districts.
The in-person meetings are an opportunity for participants to meet with their councilmember, neighbors, members of Team Savannah, and share ideas, concerns, and big dreams for the city’s future.
“Your voice matters,” City Manager Joseph A. Melder said. “Like the GPS that guides you to your destination, this new strategic plan will help Team Savannah guide our city to the future. I am excited to hear from all the residents and with your help, we will make Savannah an even better place to live, work, play, and prosper.”
At the heart of the Savannah GPS are six goals:
1. Increase Public Safety and Our Collective Sense of Security: Enabling Savannahians to live, work, and play in safe neighborhoods and fostering a strong sense of community safety through investments in effective public safety initiatives.
2. Invest in Equitable Community Development and Resiliency: Building strong neighborhoods, protecting housing, and promoting well-being while celebrating diversity and supporting individuals, families, and communities.
3. Expand Economic Access, Opportunity, and Vitality for All: Growing the local economy by supporting businesses and entrepreneurs and creating policies and programs that provide fair economic opportunities and good-paying jobs.
4. Develop World-Class Livable Environments and Infrastructure: Investing equitably in infrastructure and built environments to create resilient, thriving communities, support a robust economy, and protect the environment.
5. Improve Quality of Life by Raising Municipal Service Standards: Enhancing residential services, maintaining public spaces, and ensuring vibrant, healthy neighborhoods.
6. Always Be a High-Performing Government: Delivering responsive, inclusive, and innovative services with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and integrity.
Team Savannah urges all Savannahians to join in shaping the future of our city together by participating in Savannah GPS in February. It’s your city. Your future. Your voice.
