Savannah’s own Pool Protection Technologies, the innovative startup behind the ultrasonic pool maintenance device S.A.M., has taken home first place at the UGA Venture Prize Pitch Competition, securing the $10,000 grand prize. The competition, sponsored by Floor & Decor, was held at Studio 225 in Athens and showcased some of the University of Georgia’s most promising student-led ventures. 

“This win is a huge milestone for us,” said Garrett Stigall, Savannah native and co-founder of Pool Protection Technologies. “We launched S.A.M. in Savannah during the summer of 2024, and this validation from UGA is proof of just how far we’ve come.” 

Founded by Stigall and Guy Gober, both UGA engineering graduates, Pool Protection Technologies is transforming pool care with S.A.M., the only chemical- and metal-free solution designed to prevent algae growth in pools. With pool owners spending an average of $1,300 per year on algae maintenance alone, S.A.M. offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to traditional pool care methods. 

The company has deep roots in Savannah—not only is it headquartered in the city, but it also launched its first batch of units in the local market, where pool owners quickly saw the benefits of a low-maintenance, chemical-reducing solution.
