Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia Announces Appointment of New CEO
Thursday, February 5th, 2026
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Miriam Langley as its new Chief Executive Officer. “Following an extensive national search lasting more than a year, I am thrilled to introduce our new CEO,” said Dan Umbel, President, Board of Directors. “Miriam joins us from Charleston, South Carolina, bringing a wealth of expertise in food banking and housing stability, along with a deep understanding of community-centered leadership.”
Langley has more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, with a strong background in hunger relief services, fundraising, communications, and community engagement. She most recently served as Executive Director of Operation Home in Charleston, SC, and previously held senior leadership roles at the Lowcountry Food Bank, another partner food bank in the Feeding America network. During that time, she helped advance the organization’s mission to fight hunger by strengthening partnerships, building and leading high-performing teams, cultivating community relationships, and expanding fundraising efforts to reach more neighbors across the region.
For nearly 45 years, Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has led the fight to end hunger across its 21-county service area, serving neighbors in both urban and rural communities. Working alongside a strong network of nonprofit and faith-based partner agencies, the organization distributed 25.6 million pounds of food in 2025, helping provide nutritious after-school meals for children, supplemental food assistance for seniors, and critical support for families facing food insecurity.
“I am truly honored to serve as the CEO of such an incredible organization and to work alongside such an amazing team,” said Langley. “Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has a tremendous legacy in this community, and I look forward to building on that foundation to reach even more neighbors in need of food assistance.”
“Miriam’s deep roots in the regional food bank landscape and her proven leadership make her the ideal person to lead us forward,” Umbel added. “We look forward to introducing her to our community in the coming weeks.”
