The City of Tybee Island will host Tybee Talks Sustainability on Wednesday, September 2, 7 pm, at the Tybee Post Theater, bringing together community members and several of the organizations and individuals working every day to protect, preserve and strengthen Tybee Island’s unique coastal environment.

The free event will feature a short film highlighting Tybee’s sustainability partners, followed by a panel discussion focused on the many ways local organizations, businesses, environmental groups and community partners are working together to keep Tybee healthy and resilient.

“Tybee is a very special place, but our island environment is also incredibly fragile,” said Bret Bell, City Manager for the City of Tybee Island.

“Sustainability isn’t the responsibility of one organization or one department. It takes all of us working together, learning from one another and making thoughtful choices to protect the natural resources that make Tybee such a wonderful place to live and visit.”

The evening will showcase the important work of several of Tybee’s sustainability partners, including representatives from Fight Dirty Tybee, Manomet, Savannah Bee Company, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.

The panel will explore the connections between Tybee’s natural environment, conservation efforts, responsible stewardship and the everyday actions that can make a difference.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the organizations working behind the scenes to care for the island and the role each person can play in protecting Tybee’s future.

The program is designed to highlight the delicate balance required to preserve the qualities that make Tybee unique — from its beaches and dunes to its native plants, wildlife and surrounding coastal waters.

Community members are encouraged to attend, learn more about local sustainability efforts and discover ways they can become part of the ongoing work to protect Tybee Island.
