Veterans Council of Chatham County Announces 80th Veterans Day Parade on November 11th
Monday, November 2nd, 2026
The Veterans Council of Chatham County (VCCC), a veterans group representing 28 military veteran organizations, announces the 80th Veterans Day Parade. Scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026, this milestone celebration will honor the courage, sacrifice, and enduring service of America’s veterans while bringing together the Savannah community to recognize those who have defended our nation and protected our freedoms.
The parade will step off at 10:00 a.m, from Abercorn and Gwinnett Streets and will feature over 100 units marching in a community-wide tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans, active-duty military personnel, civic organizations, marching units, and community supporters will come together in a powerful display of patriotism, gratitude, and respect.
A particularly meaningful moment will occur at 11:11 a.m. on November 11, when the parade will pause at the reviewing stand for a special observance honoring Veterans Day. This solemn tribute will provide an opportunity for participants and spectators to reflect on the significance of the day and recognize the service and sacrifices of generations of American veterans.
“The 80th anniversary of Savannah’s Veterans Day Parade is a significant milestone for our community,” said LtCol Harry Gardner, USMC (Ret), Chairman of the Veterans Council of Chatham County. “For eight decades, this parade has provided an opportunity to honor those who have worn our nation’s uniform. As we gather on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, we will pause together to remember, reflect, and express our gratitude to all who have served. Their service must never be forgotten, and their legacy must continue to inspire future generations.”
In recognition of their distinguished service and lasting contributions to the veteran community, the Veterans Council of Chatham County has selected all living past recipients of the Council’s Veteran of the Year award to serve as Grand Marshals of the 80th Veterans Day Parade, and the recently elected Veteran of the Year, Joe Higgins will be highlighted separately.
“These distinguished individuals represent a legacy of service, leadership, sacrifice, and continued commitment to fellow veterans and the greater Chatham County community. Their participation as Grand Marshals recognizes not only their individual accomplishments but also the collective contributions of those who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation and supporting its veterans. The Veteran Council is honored to recognize these outstanding individuals and celebrate the example they set for current and future generations,” adds Gardner.
The 80th Veterans Day Parade is an invitation to the entire Savannah community to come together in support of America’s veterans. Residents, families, visitors, businesses, veteran service organizations, and community leaders are encouraged to attend, participate, and demonstrate their appreciation for those who have served.
