John Schuerholz and Frank Blake Named 2019 Georgia Trustees

The Georgia Historical Society announced that Frank Blake, retired Chairman and CEO of The Home Depot, and John Schuerholz, Vice-chairman emeritus of the Atlanta Braves, will be inducted as the newest Georgia Trustees on February 16th, 2019, at the Trustees Gala in Savannah. It is the highest honor the State of Georgia can confer.

Georgia Ports Approves $92M Rail Expansion

The Georgia Ports Authority moved 375,833 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit containers in August, an 8 percent increase over August 2017. In addition, the GPA handled 86,200 intermodal TEUs, a 33 percent jump.

Governor Deal Announces New Supreme Court & Appeals Court Appointments

Gov. Nathan Deal announced the appointment of the Honorable Charlie Bethel as a justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Bethel will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice P. Harris Hines. Deal also announced the appointment of the Honorable Christian A. Coomer to the Court of Appeals of Georgia to fill the vacancy created by Bethel’s appointment.

Governor Deal Announces More Than $40M in Development Awards to 60 Communities

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that 60 Georgia communities will receive a total of more than $40 million in federal assistance to help grow their local economies. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated the funding to Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Georgia Banks Earn $2.1B during First Half of 2018
