Governor Deal Seeking $763M Bond Package
Friday, January 17th, 2014
Georgia public schools, colleges and universities account for well more than half of the $763.1 million in bond projects Gov. Nathan Deal is requesting from the General Assembly.
But the governor’s fiscal 2015 bond package, down from this year’s $850 million in building projects, also would pay for a wide variety of construction activity, equipment purchases and land purchases across Georgia.
On the education side, the largest single project Deal is recommending is $44.7 million for a new science building at The University of Georgia. Altogether, he’s asking for $271.9 million for the public schools – mostly for construction but also including $20 million to buy school buses – $147 million for the University System of Georgia and $28.2 million for projects planned for the state’s technical colleges.
