Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF), a leading preservation organization committed to preserving and protecting Savannah's heritage, donated $5,000 to Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity earlier today. Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Virginia Brown accepted the check donation from HSF president and CEO Daniel Carey to help supplement funding needed to complete Habitat’s first LEED certified home on West 42nd Street in Savannah, Ga.
“We believe the Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood has a great future and we couldn’t be more excited to contribute to this progressive and sustainable design project,” said HSF president and CEO Daniel Carey. “Our hope is this new Habitat home will serve as a model that can be replicated in other historic neighborhood revitalization projects across the country.”
Through the collaborative efforts of Habitat for Humanity, HSF, City of Savannah, SCAD and the U.S. Green Building Council, the new single-family home features an environmentally-friendly design that is affordable, sustainable and compatible. Located in the Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood, which is a National Register Historic District, the energy-efficient home will help reduce the cost burden for the new residents.
“We are immensely grateful to have the support of important community partnerships like Historic Savannah Foundation,” said Virginia Brown, executive director of Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity. “We have long wanted to complete a LEED certified home that will help reduce the cost burden and energy poverty for families who lack adequate housing. Without the crucial and supplementary funding efforts from our community partners, this new home would not be possible.”
