Ben Carter Enterprises, a full-service, commercial real estate firm specializing in retail and mixed-use projects throughout the Southeast, announced that its premier company has acquired several buildings and has contracts to purchase over 20 buildings across five blocks along Savannah’s main thoroughfare, Broughton Street, launching the Broughton Street Project in historic downtown Savannah, Georgia.
“Our vision is to mix the best urban retailers and restaurants with local boutiques, galleries and neighborhood eateries in downtown Savannah,” said Ben Carter, founder of the Atlanta-based Ben Carter Enterprises. “We have sincere interest from national and premier retailers and restaurants and believe the Savannah community and visitors will support and enjoy an enhanced urban shopping, dining and living experience.”
The Broughton portfolio consists of 150,000 square feet of retail and restaurant spaces all located in the historic district along Broughton Street. Ben Carter Enterprises plans to renovate many of the upper floors of the recently acquired street spaces to approximately 100 urban-style loft apartments for students, young professionals and returning military. The loft spaces will include energy efficient features, high ceilings, hardwood floors and exposed walls, ranging from studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
“There are always great things happening in Savannah and now is such an incredible time to work, live and play here. We are excited about the economic boost the B Street Project will create for our district and appreciate Ben Carter’s vision and significant investment to our downtown area,” said the Honorable Van R. Johnson, II, Savannah Mayor Pro-Tem and First DistrictAlderman.
“We are proud to work with the community to help restore Broughton Street to its splendor and glory of the 1920’s and 1940’s,” said Quito Anderson, CEO of Ben Carter Enterprises. “These beautiful old buildings offer exciting enticements to retailers looking for unique urban opportunities.”
Carter credits Lori Judge, founder and principal broker of Judge Commercial, for his interest in Savannah’s historic district.
“When I first came to Savannah, I couldn’t help but notice the Judge Realty signs all around downtown,” said Carter. “Initially, we planned to purchase five buildings on Broughton, but after working with Lori our vision grew and five turned to 15, and then eventually 25, across five blocks along Broughton Street from Jefferson to Drayton. Her knowledge of the local landscape was invaluable. She is a great ambassador for Savannah.”
