Historic Savannah Foundation, a leading preservation organization committed to preserving and protecting Savannah's heritage, has officially announced the line-up of artists for the 2014 Savannah Preservation Festival art auction.
Curated by Cindy Szczecinski of CAS Fine Art Consulting, the art auction showcases some of the region’s top talent including featured artist Kenneth Herrington, a Savannah painter whose work explores ideas of neighborhood and community through intimate urban cityscapes.
Returning artists include Christine Sajecki, Bryan Stovall, Meryl Truett, Catherine Lovett, Daniel E. Smith, Christina Edwards and Melinda Borysevicz. New artists include Philip Saraf, Norman Blackwell, Tobia Makover, Todd Schroeder, Randy Akers, Alexandro Santana, Mary Adams, Katrina Schmidt-Rinke, Page Jones Davis and Bert John.
“Every year, this art auction unites regional artists to celebrate the spirit of preservation,” said Szczecinski. “The auction will be a highlight of the 2014 Savannah Preservation Festival and showcase outstanding new work for a great cause.”
The art auction’s theme, “Raise the Roof,” ties in with the overall theme of the festival. A wide range of media will be on display at the Savannah Preservation Festival art auction, from oil paintings and watercolors to photography and mixed media work.
“These pieces are worthy of any collection from a new collector to a more serious investor,” added Szczecinski. “Each piece included in the auction is an outstanding example of that artist’s work.”
The art auction will take place at the Raise the Roof Party at the Ships of the Sea Museum Garden, 41 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
The Savannah Preservation Festival will be held May 8-10, featuring a three-day celebration in honor of National Preservation Month. This year’s event will offer education, tours, outreach and inspiration. Highlights include a free lecture by renowned preservation economics expert Donovan Rypkema as well as three different tours showcasing some of Savannah’s most impressive preservation achievements.
Savannah is set to host the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual conference in November of 2014, making this year’s Savannah Preservation Festival particularly timely and relevant.
