WHY: Nurses at Memorial University Medical Center are being honored with The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses.
The award, presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the heroic efforts nurses make everyday.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired the award.
