Parker’s, a nationally-recognized convenience store leader, presented a $5,000 Fueling the Community check to Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools on Friday at Savannah Arts Academy. Friday’s donation is part of the company’s $25,000 unrestricted charitable contribution to area schools in Georgia and South Carolina and marks the third annual donation to Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools.
“At Parker’s, we’re proud to be headquartered in Savannah and are delighted to give back to area schools right here in Chatham County,” said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker’s. “Education is the tide that lifts all boats, and helps make our community stronger. We appreciate the teachers, administrators and staff who work hard every day to educate students.”
Students from Savannah Arts Academy's communications classes were in attendance, and had the opportunity to talk with Parker about how he has built his company and lessons learned along the way.
"Greg has a lot of options on what he does with his money, but he's chosen to give back to the schools as well as other causes in our city, such as supporting Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room," Buck emphasized in his remarks to the students.
Parker’s donates one cent of every gallon of gas purchased at all of its convenience stores on the first Wednesday of the month to area schools through the Fueling the Community program. The company’s charitable initiative officially launched in the fall of 2011 and has donated money to public and private schools in every community where Parker’s does business.
Parker’s customers can sign up for a PumpPal card online at www.PumpPalClub.com to select a school of their choice for their one cent per gallon donation. Existing PumpPal members can access their account online and select a specific school to receive donations.
