Savannah State Scholarship Gala Set for April 26

Savannah State University's President’s Scholarship Gala will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in the Student Union ballroom on the SSU campus. Net proceeds from the university’s premier fundraiser and acclaimed community event will support student scholarships.

This year’s gala theme, “Bridging Possibilities,” acknowledges the university as a marker of connectivity helping individuals to acquire a college education in order to pursue their career goals and aspirations. During the black-tie affair, five individuals and organizations will be the inaugural recipients of the university’s Awards of Excellence in service, leadership, scholarship and philanthropy:

  • Award of Excellence for Service – 100 Black Men of Savannah, Inc.;
  • Award of Excellence for Leadership – Savannah Mayor Edna B. Jackson and United States Marine Corps Lt. Gen. (retired) Walter E. Gaskin;
  • Award of Excellence for Scholarship – Dr. Margaret C. Robinson, dean emerita of the SSU College of Sciences and Technology; and
  • Award of Excellence for Philanthropy – Mrs. Louise L. Owens, professor emerita, SSU College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s gala is Thompson Hospitality, SSU’s foodservice provider. Individual seats are $150 and a reserved table for 10 is $1,500.
