Three rehabilitation projects from J.T. Turner Construction received awards for Excellence in Rehabilitation from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation at a ceremony in Cartersville May 16, 2014.

The projects included The Baldwin Lofts in Milledgeville, the rehabilitation of Tift, Lewis, and Herring Halls at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, and Levy Jewelers located on Broughton Street in historic downtown Savannah. Two of the projects were completed in conjunction with Savannah based architectural firms; Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with Greenline Architecture and Levy Jewelers with Hansen Architects.  Turner worked directly with a local builder in Tifton, Georgia on the rehabilitation of Tift, Lewis, and Herring Halls at ABAC, establishing a mentoring program where Jones Construction Company was able to work with preservation specialists employed by J.T. Turner Construction.

“We are honored that the Georgia Trust would recognize three of our projects that span across the state of Georgia,” says Tripp Turner, President of J.T. Turner Construction. “We are most proud of the fact that local resources were used on each of these individual projects, furthering the value of the project to the entire community.”

J.T. Turner Construction was founded in 1976 by Jim Turner, and is currently operated under the leadership of his son, Tripp Turner. The company has received 12 awards from the Georgia Trust, yet has never received three within one year. For more than 35 years, the Georgia Trust has recognized preservation projects and individuals in the state who have made significant contributions to the field of historic preservation. Excellence in Rehabilitation awards recognize projects that make compatible use of a building through repair, alterations or additions while preserving features of the property that convey its historic character. This year the Trust presented 16 Excellence in Rehabilitation awards.
