Urban Hope, Inc. began its free Summer Camp for inner city children on June 9^th, 2014. The Summer Camp is conducted five days a week, Monday through Friday. The hours of the program are 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily and many of the children are transported to and from their homes to the Urban Hope location.

This Summer Camp is an essential part of these children and their families’ lives. Each day at the Summer Camp, the children are involved in fun activities that enrich their lives and introduce them to areas of art, dance, music, sewing, and technology. The children and instructors take field trips each week to venues throughout the city learning about history, culture, nature and of course having fun. The instructors also engage the children in learning by tutoring them in math, science, reading and computer in order to keep their minds sharp and ready for the school year.

The Urban Hope Summer Camp is not only important to the children who attend, but also to our community as a whole. The camp enrollment is sixty five children between the ages of 5 and 15, with numerous children on the waiting list. These children will be in a safe, loving environment away from the hot, dangerous streets of Savannah’s inner city. It is no secret that Savannah has a high crime rate and Urban Hope’s mission is to not only keep these children from being victims of crime but to also keep them from being involved in criminal activity. By educating them and introducing them to their undiscovered talents, Urban Hope is creating a better future for the children and also our community. 

The camp is free to the attending children and Urban Hope is dependent on donations to run the camp. The daily cost per child is $15 and $600 per child for the entirety of the camp.
