Richmond Hill, Ga., a thriving coastal city about 20 miles south of Savannah, is pleased to announce its designation as a 2014 Playful City USA honoree by KaBOOM! and the Humana Foundation for its initiatives in creating a community that allows children to get balanced and active play in a safe environment.

“In providing the best possible services to this community, the City of Richmond Hill recognizes the need for recreational parks and activities for children and we are honored to have been selected as a Playful City designee for our efforts,” said Jennifer Sowell, zoning administrator for Richmond Hill. “We try to provide outdoor activities for children during events to make them more family friendly, and provide something for everyone. We are committed to serving our citizens and helping to offer a better quality of life in Richmond Hill.”

This is the fifth time that Richmond Hill has been recognized as a Playful City, which has allowed the city to apply for and receive grants that help improve the conditions of area parks to make them safer and more enjoyable for children and families. The City holds a yearly Play Day during one of the many festivals in J.F. Gregory Park to encourage children and those in the community to get out and stay active.
