Savannah Tree Foundation: County Wide Tree Canopy Assessment

The Savannah Tree Foundation has commissioned a county-wide urban tree canopy assessment. Local governments and organizations, including the Chatham County Metropolitan Planning Commission and Savannah’s Park & Tree Commission, have expressed a need for up-to-date data and analysis of Chatham County’s urban forest. The Savannah Tree Foundation is proud to lead this initiative.

Plan-It Geo, a nationally recognized geospatial technology firm based in Arvada, CO, is conducting Chatham County’s canopy study. Principal Ian Hanou is visiting Savannah onJuly 15 and will be discussing the assessment with community representatives.

Trees are critical to human health, wildlife, public safety, schools and education, economic development, and so many other aspects of our daily lives and long-term well-being. STF appreciates your dedication to ensuring that trees continue to serve the people of Chatham County. 

To optimize the canopy assessment, STF will work together will local governments and industry professionals. Community leaders, local officials, and natural resource managers will gather for a breakfast information session with Plan-It Geo and the Savannah Tree Foundation the morning of Tuesday, July 15, at 8:30 am at the Coastal Georgia Center. We invite you to join us to learn more about the canopy assessment tools and resources that will help our community.
