Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC) announces the program for its annual God on Broadway series.  This innovative worship series is the focus of Asbury Memorial UMC’s regular Sunday morning services at 11:15 am throughout October which are held in the church located at 1008 E. Henry Street (corner of East Henry and Waters).

The 2014 series kicks off on October 4th with Hair followed by Little Shop of Horrors on October 12th, The Fantasticks on October 19th (a prelude to the Asbury Memorial Theatre’s full production in November) and concludes with The Lion King on October 26th 2014.

The musical theatre focus of each service leads to vibrant worship with songs from the shows led by the Reverend Billy Hester who masterfully interprets each show to have meaning in the Christian life.  The various plots lend themselves to lively sermons focused around topics such as self-esteem, forgiveness, transformation, social justice, and other issues that impact our everyday lives.

Now in its 10th year, God On Broadway has become a popular annual event and draws upon the skills of Billy Hester, who along with his wife Cheri, has a background in the performing arts.  The Hesters moved to Savannah in the 1980s and rebuilt Asbury Memorial UMC to become a church committed to expressing the joy of God creatively with a thriving and supportive congregation.

Rev. Billy Hester said, “It’s important to reach out to spread the good news to wider audiences with innovative types of worship.”
