The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, a professional orchestra presenting a full range of concerts from classics to pops each season, recently announced the musical lineup for the 2014 Picnic in the Park program. The Philharmonic coordinated the musical presentations of all of this year’s performers for the event, which will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Forsyth Park in Savannah’s Historic District.

“The big difference this year compared to last year is we have added an afternoon of entertainment leading up to the Savannah Philharmonic’s performance,” said David Pratt, executive director, Savannah Philharmonic. “Our area schools have some fabulous young musicians and singers and the lineup reflects a cross-section of these fine musicians from local schools.”

Picnic in the Park, a beloved Savannah tradition, celebrates National Arts and Humanities month by featuring an evening of live music, family friendly activities and a creative spread of picnics big and small. It is funded by the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs along with the presenting sponsor, Parker’s. 

Picnic in the Park is but one part of the Philharmonic’s robust community outreach program. The organization is an integral part of the Integrative Medicine Program at The Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, providing musicians to play for patients and staff and bringing the joy and healing powers of music to as many members of the community as possible. The orchestra and chorus also has an effective educational program, bringing students to rehearsals and providing master classes to talented young musicians in the area by visiting soloists.
