Friday, September 12th, 2014

The 40th Annual Holiday Tour of Homes, presented by the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Savannah announces that tickets are now on sale. The Tour will take place December 13, 2014. Each year, the Tour proves to be a wonderful opportunity for visitors and locals to enjoy touring private homes and properties within Savannah’s Landmark Historic District.

The Holiday Tour of Homes is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2014 with brand new events! The Downtown Neighborhood Association will present a Christmas Celebration of Music Concert on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church. Church choirs from around the Savannah area will unite in this picturesque setting to celebrate the season in song. A special surprise from The Jepson Center for the Arts will be at the conclusion of the concert. This event is the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s gift to Savannah and will be free and open on a first-come; first-serve basis for seating.

Also new this year, a Holiday Tea at the Massie Heritage Center. Enjoy a traditional holiday tea accompanied by costumed history interpreters, recounting the end of the Civil War. Guests will be able to explore the exhibits at the Massie Heritage Center while enjoying a tea. There will be two seatings 3 -4 p.m. and 4 -5 p.m. Tickets are $25.

A new exhibit called Powerful Punches reminds of old-fashioned beverages served in Historic Savannah, where families bring out their punch bowls as a Christmas tradition. The Savannah History Museum created a back-in-time exhibit that looks at the history of the punch bowl and the wide of assortment of appropriate glassware that accompanies holiday imbibing.  In the Hostess City, where hospitality is warm and gracious, get a taste of the liquid refreshment that fuel the holiday season. Under the guidance of noted historian, Hugh Golson, this event is co-sponsored by  the Downtown Neighborhood Association and Savannah Victorian Society. Enjoy tasting a Hot Toddy Tasting in between the Daytime and Evening Tours while exploring this unique exhibit. Tickets are $25.

The main events of the 40th Annual Holiday Tour of Homes will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in Savannah’s Landmark Historic District. There will be a Daytime Tour and an Evening Tour with different homes featured on each!

Afternoon Tour: 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Evening Tour: 5 – 8 p.m.

Homes are decorated according to the homeowner’s personal taste and tradition. The tour is a great way to get into the spirit of the season, says Gale Steves, Holiday Tour of Homes Chairman.

A self-guided walking tour, participants visit each home at their own pace and select their own starting and ending point.

The Tour is the major fundraising event for the Downtown Neighborhood Association whose Mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Landmark Historic District, protect Savannah’s unique downtown environment, and advocate public policies; which support these objectives. The Downtown Neighborhood Association protects the Landmark District’s architectural heritage, encourages restoration and beautification, and support local organizations that enhance the community through aid to Savannah’s citizens, education, safety, music, and children’s activities.
