Press release from the issuing company

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc., a philanthropic corporation through which individuals, families, other charities and businesses support the Savannah community, once again is accepting nonprofit organization grant requests for funding from the Alan S. Gaynor Fund held and managed by the Community Foundation.

As a lifelong resident of Savannah, Mr. Gaynor was widely-respected among his peers for his unwavering service to friends, synagogue, community, state and nation as an attorney, military officer, state representative, civic leader and philanthropist.

Consistent with his lifetime of dedicated service to Savannah, Gaynor left a significant portion of his estate to the Savannah Community Foundation to create a fund that is to be used for purposes benefitting Chatham County. The Community Foundation oversees the allocation and distribution of the Gaynor Fund through a grant application and approval process.

“The Savannah Community Foundation is pleased and gratified to be charged with the responsible allocation and distribution of the Alan S. Gaynor Fund,” said its president, Russ Simpson. “Mr. Gaynor was a remarkable man, and we are honored that he chose the Community Foundation to carry on this portion of his legacy.”

Any nonprofit organization applying for funding from the Gaynor Fund must be a governmental or public charity and use the grant funds on a public project to benefit the people of Chatham County.

RFP’s will be accepted until November 15, 2014.  To receive a grant application, email [email protected] or call (912) 921-7700
