Savannah State University to Launch Confucius Institute

Savannah State University (SSU) and Jiujiang University officials will celebrate the launch of the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University, Oct. 28-29, 2014.
Savannah State University is the sixth academic institution in the state of Georgia and the third Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the nation to house a Confucius Institute, which will promote the teaching of Chinese language and culture in the Savannah area, facilitate cultural exchanges and serve as a platform to promote business cooperation between Savannah and China.

9:30-10:45 a.m., Student Union ballrooms
Welcome to the Confucius Institute – Speakers will define the purpose and benefits of the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University. Also, JiuJiang University exchange students will perform a dance.

Art Exhibition by Ching Ma – Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each weekday.

Confucius Institute Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Reception
5 p.m., Kennedy Building auditorium
Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony – Weihua Zhang, an active member of Savannah’s Chinese community, will present a segment titled “Getting to Know Your Neighbors: Savannah’s Chinese Community.” Entertainment will include violist Lizhou Liu, the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company and Jiujiang University exchange students.
The events are free and open to the public.
