The SMA Angels Charity Inc., a 100 percent volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a treatment or cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), is pleased to present the 17th Annual SMA Angels “High Hopes” Charity Ball on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 6 p.m.
Individual tickets are $80, and various sponsorship levels are available. All proceeds benefit the fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy and help support local families.
The 17th Annual SMA Angels Charity Ball will take place at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, 100 General McIntosh Blvd., where guests will enjoy an evening of dinner and dancing with live entertainment by the Swingin’ Medallions band, dinner music provided by Roger Widener and a silent and live auction with auctioneer Matt Mattingly.
The SMA Angels Charity was founded in 1999 by the friends and family of Cassie and Skylar Swanson, twin sisters who were diagnosed with the most severe form of SMA five months after birth in 1997, to help raise community awareness and money for research devoted to finding a cure or treatment for SMA. A devastating neuromuscular disease, SMA is the number one genetic killer of children under two. At present, there is no cure or treatment.
“Parents of children diagnosed with SMA are often told that their child will never sit, walk or stand and most likely die before the age of two,” said Becky West, a 16-year member of the SMA fundraising committee. “Families with SMA children will never have the opportunity to experience a normal child’s upbringing. SMA Angels Charity has worked tirelessly over the past 17 years to improve quality of care for these children and help them participate in many of life’s exciting experiences. They feel all children deserve quality care and quality of life.”
