Hospice Savannah Art Show: A Colorful Passport to the World

Press release from the issuing company

Monday, November 10th, 2014

The public is warmly invited to meet painter Miriam Urizar Rittmeyer and photographer Devon Murphy at their opening artists’ reception on Thursday, November 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hospice Savannah Art Gallery, 1352 Eisenhower Drive.

A native of Guatemala, Miriam most recently served as Executive Director of the Savannah Community Health Mission.  A colorful passport to the world, this is her first show of paintings and springs from her passion to address issues of social injustice and healthcare inequities while simultaneously capturing the beauty, hope and happiness of the world’s indigenous peoples.

Miriam’s large-scale, loosely painted bold pieces are perfectly complemented by the sharply focused photographs from various cultures by world traveler and friend, Devon Murphy. Devon is a native of the United States, but has found happy homes in 23 countries during his travels. After graduating from Virginia Tech with a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, he spent two years in rural Uganda teaching physics and mathematics for the U.S. Peace Corps.

On the night of their opening reception only, Miriam will also display pieces from her hand-crafted “Raindrops” jewelry collection: beautiful lariats of sandalwood beads, pearls and Tibetan metal. There will be traditional music and Miriam’s delicious foods from Guatemala, Mexico, India and the Middle East. The show will hang through early January, 2015.
