UN Officer to Speak at Savannah State University

Mohammad Reza Salamat will speak on global climate change on Thursday, November 13, at 12:30 p.m. at the Jordan Building at Savannah State University (SSU). He is appearing at SSU as part of a lecture series presented by the International Education Center (IEC).
Emmanuel Naniuzeyi, Ph.D., director of the IEC, said, “the speaker is addressing the issue of climate change at the request of some students who felt the topic is timely and appropriate.” This is the first of three major lectures on global issues that will be held at SSU.
Salamat works as a senior program officer at the UN Secretary General's Climate Change Support Team, based in New York City. He joined the Division for Sustainable Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) as an expert on policy aspects of climate change in January 2002. His primary responsibility is providing policy analysis and advice for the ongoing negotiations around the world. At the UN/DESA, Salamat continues to be in charge of climate change and sustainable development issues.
Salamat holds a master’s degree in international relations with a focus on environmental matters from the Tehran University.
