Atlanta Gas Light Employees Raise Over $5,000 for Savannah Children's Choir
Press release from the issuing company
Thursday, December 4th, 2014
Atlanta Gas Light recently presented the Savannah Children’s Choir with a check for $5,265.
Earlier this fall, SCC Director of Development Roger Moss was chatting with Frank Gray, Operations Director of Atlanta Gas Light about the choir, only to discover that AGL was looking for a non-profit partner who needed both funds and volunteer help. Moss, joined by Executive Director Cuffy Sullivan and Director of Education Emmy Williams met with the employees at two staff meetings, and explained the goals and needs of the organization.
“We were so excited to find a partner that so closely matches our company vision and commitment to education and diversity,” comments Gray.
AGL staff came up with the idea to hold a fundraiser to benefit the choir, and raised $5,265 with a raffle, selling $20 tickets for a chance to win a hunting rifle valued at $1,200. The SCC will use these funds to subsidize the transportation on their 2015 tour to Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’m not much of a hunter, so my strategy was to tell people to purchase a ticket just to benefit the Savannah Children’s Choir,” admits Gray. “However, other employees are avid sportsmen, and their strategy to sell tickets was that $20 offered a great chance to win such a valuable rifle. We set an initial goal to raise $5,000, and were very pleased to exceed it!”
In addition to fundraising, AGL staff have gotten involved helping with various events. They’ve already rolled up their sleeves, helping serve a meal provided by Magnolia Grill Catering prior to the children performing at the End of Camp concert. Also, a number of staff are signed up to help with the SCC’s Spaghetti Supper on Monday, December 1 from 4-7 at Savannah Arts Academy.
“Our employees are excited to give back to an organization like the Savannah Children’s Choir. They’re preparing for our future by working with talented kids, and giving them a chance to grow and develop,” says Frank Gray.
