Press release from the issuing company

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

The Savannah Philharmonic will perform Haydn’s choral masterpiece The Creation on Saturday, January 31st at 7:30pm in the exquisite, soaring setting of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. This concert includes three of Savannah’s great vocal talents – Tina Zenker-Williams, soprano Stephen Dobson, tenor and Kyle Hancock, bass. The Supporting Concert Sponsor is Sea Island Bank; Contributing Sponsor Austin Hill Realty.

“When we surround ourselves with beautiful music in beautiful spaces, it can only make us more beautiful people.  The chorus is excited to sing Creation because we know the wonderful people of Savannah will appreciate its brilliance,” expounds Monica Harper, Savannah Philharmonic Chorusmaster.  “You will hear the Chorus’s excitement in their exuberant singing. It will most definitely be their most energetic and high-spirited performance of the season thus far.  Surely, a night filled to the brim with joy and beauty!”

Haydn’s masterpiece oratorio The Creation depicts and celebrates, in evocative musical language, the creation of the world as described in the biblical Book of Genesis and Paradise Lost. The soloists portray the archangels Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael as the world takes form and the creatures and inhabitants appear.

The Savannah Philharmonic is pleased to be accompanied by three accomplished Savannah soloists - soprano Heidi Bindhammer, tenor Stephen Dobson and Bass Baritone, Kyle Hancock.  Ms. Zenker William has been favorably reviewed by critics for “her infectious melisma passages” and “beautifully etched voice” (Tampa Tribune). She maintains an active private voice studio in Savannah, Georgia, and is the cantor for the weekly Compline service at Christ Church Anglican.

Mr. Dobson, a native Savannahian, was a quarterfinalist in the 2014 American Traditions Competition and has made it to the quarterfinals again in this year’s 2015 American Traditions Competition. Mr. Hancock is currently on the music faculty of Georgia Southern University where is Chair of the Vocal Arts.

Tickets for The Creation range from $18 (obstructed view seating) to $100. Visit www.savannahphilharmonic.org or call the box office at 912.525.5050.
