Senior Citizens, Inc. Kicks Off The Learning Center’s Winter Session

Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI), a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for area seniors, is pleased to announce The Learning Center is beginning its winter session of educational courses, lectures and special discussion groups led by a variety of engaging speakers and distinguished instructors. 

“The winter is a great time to stay indoors and flex your cerebral muscles,” said SCI President Patti Lyons. “The Learning Center’s programs range from foreign affairs, writing and book clubs to musical events, historical lectures and so much more. There really is something for just about any interest.”

The Learning Center, located at 3025 Bull St., offers a variety of programs for the lifelong learner on Tuesday through Friday during the winter session. Attendees will enjoy a selection of educational courses, lectures and special discussion groups. In addition, art course offerings, book club meetings, foreign language discussion groups, domestic and foreign policy discussion groups, yoga studio sessions and more are available for members and nonmembers. The Learning Center at Skidaway Island offers an afternoon course and six lectures covering a range of topics on Monday afternoons from January 26 - March 2, 2015. The five-week course at Skidaway is “The Great Fire of London” at 3:45-4:45 p.m. The cost is $40 for members and $80 for nonmembers. The lecture series at Skidaway includes one-hour talks on George Washington, Sandy West and Ossabaw Island, the death of FDR, Mark Twain, Julium and Ethel Rosenberg, and the Rockefellers. Each program begins at 5 p.m with a reception and lectures beginning at 5:30 p.m. The cost for each lecture is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. All Skidaway programs are held at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church located at 50 Diamond Causeway. Advance registration is required; call Debbie Hornsby at 912.236.0363 x146.
