Chatham Transit Officials Following New Route to Future
Monday, February 23rd, 2015
One woman is climbing on a bus to head to Oglethorpe Mall. Two others are waiting for a shuttle to take them to a ferry to cross the Savannah River to Hutchinson Island. And two out-of-towners are about to rent a couple of bicycles to ride to their nearby hotel.
All of them are making their way through Chatham Area Transit’s main terminal on West Oglethorpe Avenue on the edge of the downtown Historic District. Known as the Joe Murray Rivers Jr. Intermodal Transit Center, the terminal opened in late 2013 after a $15 million renovation.
Since then, it’s been a hub of activity as buses come and go, carrying passengers from one area of the city and county to another.
