Georgia Tech-Savannah to Hold OSHA Courses in March

WHAT: Georgia Tech’s occupational safety and health program, taught by top industry professionals, is coming to the coastal region during the month of March. The following courses will be offered:  

March 2, 2015
OSHA 7100: Introduction to Machinery and Machine Safeguarding
This seminar is designed to increase the participant’s knowledge and skill in proper machine safeguarding techniques and to highlight the benefits of guarding various types of machinery. It is the employer’s responsibility to identify and select the safeguard necessary to protect employees and others in the work area as well as provide appropriate training in safe work practices. Knowing when and how to properly safeguard machinery can reduce or eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries.

OSHA 7105: Introduction to Emergency Planning Seminar 
This seminar is designed to assist companies in protecting workers from emergencies in the workplace. This seminar will briefly cover issues such as chemical spills, severe weather, fire, workplace violence and homeland defense. Additionally, this program will cover the plans required by OSHA to deal with these issues. Time is dedicated to Emergency Action Plans, general site safety and Emergency Response Plans (ERP).

OSHA 7510: Introduction to OSHA for Small Businesses
This course provides an introduction to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for owners and managers of small businesses. The goal of the course is to help participants gain an understanding of OSHA operations and procedures and learn how they can work with OSHA to prevent or reduce injuries and illnesses in their workplaces. Included in the course is information on the background of OSHA, standards, the inspection process, implementing a safety and health program, and assistance available to small businesses.

Simplify the recordkeeping system for your employer using OSHA’s new recordkeeping rule, 29 CFR 1904, designed to improve employee involvement and protect the privacy of an injured or ill worker.

OSHA 7205: Health Hazard Awareness
The goal of this course is to assist participants with recognizing potential health hazards in the workplace, and avoiding, minimizing, controlling or eliminating them whenever possible. This course will provide information on the types of health hazards and discuss ways to recognize, evaluate and control them in the workplace. This course is set up as a facilitated, interactive training session. Participants are given small “chunks” of information, and then are able to test their understanding of the subject matter via participant activities. There will be group activities. The course is designed to promote an active learning environment.

OSHA 500: Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction Industry
Use OSHA standards to learn effective training techniques with a special emphasis on the most hazardous areas in construction. This course is for private- and public-sector workers interested in developing safety and health programs in construction. Successfully complete the course and pass a multiple-choice test to become an outreach trainer, authorized to conduct both 10- and 30-hour construction courses. Construction industry outreach trainers must take OSHA 502 every four years to maintain their status as an outreach trainer.

OSHA 501: Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry
Implement in your workplace the OSHA provisions provided by several private- and public-sector personnel representing numerous industries. Learn about your rights and responsibilities under the OSHA Act. Successfully complete the course and pass a multiple-choice test to become an outreach trainer, authorized to conduct both 10- and 30-hour general industry courses. General industry voluntary compliance outreach trainers must take OSHA 503 every four years to maintain their status as an outreach trainer.
