As Solarize Tybee Gains Popularity, Price Drops

With the Solarize Tybee program, the more people who sign up, the cheaper the solar panels get for everyone who wants them in Chatham County.
A little more than a week into enrollment, 174 people had expressed interest, prompting organizer Paul Wolff to predict that the price will drop significantly by the end of enrollment in mid-April.
“The highest amount you’ll pay in the Solarize Tybee program is $2.95 per watt,” Wolff told a crowd of about 150 people at the Savannah Civic Center Tuesday night. “That’s if only one person signs up. If we get 200 or 300 or 400 people to sign up the price could drop to as low as $2 a watt. That’s an ambitious goal. It’s attainable. But we can pretty much feel comfortable with a $2.75, a $2.80, a $2.60 per watt number.”
