Angela Long, ANP-BC, adult nurse practitioner and manager for clinical best practices at Memorial University Medical Center, has been invited to serve as a consultant with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee.
Long was selected based on her accomplishments, education, and work experience. She will be classified as a special government employee consultant during the five-year-term. “This is an excellent opportunity to represent nursing as a profession by collaborating with other health care professionals whose opinions and expertise will complement each other to guide, develop, and improve safe medical practices,” Long said.
The Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee advises the FDA commissioner on risk management and risk communication, and evaluates reports on drugs and other products for which the FDA has regulatory responsibility. The committee also advises the commissioner regarding the scientific and medical evaluation of drug safety, efficacy, and abuse potential, and recommends actions to be taken by the Department of Health and Human Services with regard to the marketing, investigation, and substance abuse control.
