Players Amateur Alumni Commit to the RBC Heritage

Six Players Amateur alumni have committed to the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. Brendon de Jonge, Billy Hurley, Marc Leishman, Michael Putnam, Cameron Tringale and Scott Vincent will all compete in South Carolina’s signature golf event April 13-19over the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
They are joined by defending champion Matt Kuchar and past champions Graeme McDowell, Stewart Cink, Glen Day, Jim Furyk, Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, Carl Pettersson, Brandt Snedeker, Tom Watson and Boo Weekley. Other notables committed are Luke Donald, Ernie Els and Brian Harman.
The Players Amateur is a summer event hosted by the Heritage Classic Foundation. Held at Berkeley Hall in Bluffton, S.C., it attracts the best amateurs from all over the world. Past champions include Ben Curtis, Bill Haas, Rickie Fowler and Camilo Villegas. The champion is awarded an exemption into the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. Virginia Tech’s Scott Vincent, from Zimbabwe, won the 2014 event and will be making his first start at Harbour Town.
de Jonge is also a Virginia Tech grad from Zimbabwe. He turned pro in 2009 and will be making his seventh start at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
Hurley had a great season in 2014, earning 4 top-10 finishes and a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs. During his years at the United States Naval Academy, he competed in amateur events and was a member of the 2005 Walker Cup team. He took a five-year break from golf while he was a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He will be competing for the second time in the RBC Heritage.
Leishman is from Victoria, Australia. As an amateur, he spent his summers competing in the United States. Last year, he earned six top-10 finishes in just 18 starts, but his only PGA TOUR win came at the 2012 Travelers Championship. His first RBC Heritage was in 2009 and he has not missed one since.
Putnam is from Tacoma, Washington and graduated from Pepperdine University in 2005. He has three Web.com victories and has cracked the top-10 twice on the PGA TOUR. He will be making his third start at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
Tringale grew up in California, but played golf for Georgia Tech. He had a stand out season in 2014; earning three top-10 finishes and ended the season #20 in the FedExCup standings. He will be competing in the RBC Heritage for the third time.
