Savannah Baseball Team a Step Closer to Moving to Columbia

The Savannah team long suspected of moving here to become the capital city’s new professional baseball team next spring has notified that Georgia city that it is leaving. 

The owners of the Sands Gnats minor league team have told Savannah they are not renewing a contract that expires Sept. 30 to keep the team in that port city and manage aging Grayson Stadium, where the team plays, a city spokesman said.

“They made it very clear that they don’t intend on staying for a 16th season if we don’t build a new stadium,” spokesman Brett Bell said.
