The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce a total of $90,332.91 will be distributed in 2015 from the Robert C. Tripp Fund, a Donor Designated Fund of The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc., to three nonprofit organizations.

With no surviving spouse or descendants, Dr. Tripp established the Robert C. Tripp Fund prior to his death on July 7, 2012. The Tripp Fund’s investment manager, Kelly Bouchillon a Senior Vice President and CFP at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, was instrumental in the organization of the Fund, which will pay out five percent of its value annually, in perpetuity. The following designated recipients will receive monies granted by the Tripp Fund in 2015:

  • Virginia Military Institute Foundation to fund a Dean’s Scholarship - $46,146

  • St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Skidaway Island, for its general purposes - $18,066.58

  • Hospice Savannah, for its general purposes - $26,120.33

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Tripp attended Kemper Military School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Military Institute in 1952. He was commissioned there as a Second Lieutenant.  He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and, later, as a Reserve Commissioned Officer until 1962.  He graduated the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1960 and, like his father before him, practiced dentistry in the Detroit area. Following his retirement, he moved with his wife, Anne Huber, to The Landings on Skidaway Island, where they continued an active lifestyle until their deaths.

“We are honored to have worked with Kelly Bouchillon and Merrill Lynch to create a lasting legacy for Dr. Tripp and his wife, Anne,” said Russell Simpson, president of The Savannah Community Foundation. “Thanks to their incredible generosity, the Tripp Fund will provide substantial, perpetual support to the beneficiary organizations to continue their respective important community services, while assuring the principal is preserved.”

Founded in 1953, The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc. has a long history of benefitting donors, recipients and the community by providing a safe, simple, inexpensive and tax efficient vehicle for philanthropic capital formation, investment and distribution to qualified charities.
