SouthCoast Health continues to grow and expand its services with the addition of Dr. Ana Maria Concepción, an infectious disease specialist who has practiced in Savannah for the past 16 years, to its team of physicians.
She serves as chair of the Infection Control Committee at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a position that she has held since 2000. Dr. Concepción also is secretary/treasurer at Candler Hospital, a position that she has held since 2015, and served as Chief of Medicine there from 2012 to 2014.
“We are excited to add another talented and respected physician to our Infectious Disease group,” SouthCoast Health Administrator John Marrero said. “SouthCoast also will benefit in that Dr. Concepción is well known and well established in the community.”
Dr. Concepción sees patients at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and at Memorial Health University Medical Center. Her SouthCoast office will be at 1326 Eisenhower Drive, Building 2 (912-354-5543).
Dr. Concepción earned her medical degree at Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in Louisiana and performed a fellowship there in infectious diseases. She is board-certified in infectious diseases and her interests are in hospital infectious diseases and also HIV. She holds membership in the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association.
SouthCoast’s Infectious Disease Group also includes Drs. Nenad Avramovski, Sarah R. Barbour and Richard S. Roth. The group provides patients with disease-control initiatives and key antibiotic management programs, offering treatment for patients in-office, as well as in-hospital, and other in-patient settings. Infectious disease specialists aid and maintain immunology (how the body fights infection), epidemiology (how infections spread) and infection control.
