Chatham Moves Ahead with Negotiation for Sale of County Water System

Things aren’t looking good in Chatham County’s water and sewer fund.
During a meeting in the Green Room on Friday, Chatham County Manager Lee Smith told the county commission the enterprise fund is rapidly leaking money. Just this year, he said, the fund will be $400,000 in the hole. At that rate, all the reserves that have cushioned the system’s losses in the past will be gone in two years.
